Alumna celebrates 100 years, 50 spent teaching

Allie Dezelle has seen it all. The retired teacher, and the oldest known alumna of Texas State University-San Marcos, celebrated her 100th birthday this month.

Dezelle declared that her life “is more fun now than ever.”

Born in 1912 in Stockdale, Texas, Dezelle started working as a Forth Worth school teacher when she was just 17 years old. She later graduated from Texas State - then Southwest Texas Teaching College – and taught second grade until her retirement in 1970.
