Phillips earns Dow Jones News Fund internship

Jarod Phillips, a graduating senior at Texas State University, has been selected for a prestigious Dow Jones New Fund internship during the summer of 2011. He was one of 10 students nationwide to be awarded a DJNF multimedia internship.

The multimedia interns will be trained at Western Kentucky University by Dr. Pam Johnson. After training, Phillips will work for a minimum of 10 weeks as a paid intern at the International Center for Journalists in Washington, D.C. Phillips previously was a staff member at the Texas State campus radio station, KTSW 89.9.

“We have been able to match talented student journalists with excellent opportunities to learn from and work with professional journalists,” said Rich Holden, executive director.

DJNF, which began its internship programs in 1962, also places interns in the areas of editing, copy editing, sports editing and business reporting. In all, the organization will train and send 81 undergraduate and graduate students - out of some 600 applicants - to work at news organizations across the country this summer. Students returning to college in the fall will receive $1,000 scholarships.
