Dave Parsons named Texas Poet Laureate
Texas State University alumnus David M. Parsons was named the Poet Laureate of Texas for 2011.
Parsons grew up in Austin and joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve after graduating from high school. As a Texas State student, he majored in business and minored in physical education.
Throughout his career endeavors - as a small business owner, teacher and high school coach - he wrote poetry, and eventually began to publish collections of his works.
Parsons teaches writing at Lone Star College, a position he’s held since 1992. As poet laureate, Parsons will serve to encourage engagement with poetry in Texas.
